Updates Website Ham Radio

I’m a slacker
#

Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve posted, and that’s my bad, but life has gotten a bit busy and complicated, so all that stuff had to be addressed first.

Anyway, here’s a little bit of what’s been going on:

Why does the website look different?
#

Well, that’s easy and complicated at the same time.

While I liked the look of the website as it was before, there were a number of issues in terms of updating the code to the latest version that I discovered when trying to write this article. After some playing around, some research, and plenty of time spent migrating articles (nothing is ever simple), I decided on the format that’s here.

Now, there are things that are absent from this version that I liked in the other view, but I’m slowly learning how to adapt and make things look the way I want them to. If you have opinions and suggestions, I’m happy to take the feedback in the comments section below.

Who’s a ham?
#

After years of talking about it, and doing relatively little studying, life gave me some time to accomplish a long-term goal of mine. As of thge end of May 2025, I have become a licensed amateur radio (ham) operator, and a few weeks later, I upgraded my license to give me even more accessiblility.

So, why did I do this? Well, radio is one of those things that will always be available. That, and I needed a new hobby. So far, it’s been great, interacting with mostly local people over the airwaves, getting good tips on how to learn and advance. I’ve even managed to speak with some people who are remote via connected repeaters.

The long-term goal is to be able to connect using radio waves to people around the world, both via voice and digitally (yes, that’s possible). I plan (and we know how that goes) to write more about my ham escapades.

Back on social media (edited 2025-06-28)
#

So, a few months ago, I decided that I was leaving social media . As you can see, I’m back, but not terribly active. The main reasons being that:

  • There are some ham radio communities that exist only on Facebook that I would like to be part of
  • There are a few groups that I do miss interacting with
  • I needed FB to access information for another project

I don’t plan to post frequently on my main page, and responding to comments will be rare, unless you comment here at the blog. I also don’t plan to use Messenger much, either, so please feel free to contact me using other methods (phone, text, email, this blog. This is outlined in the older articles).

In conclusion…

There are other things going on, but no real details to add just yet. I have my annual camping trip coming up, and maybe some other exciting things, like getting back in the kitchen (I’ve been experimenting there, too).

Here’s to more (and more frequent) updates!
